REMOTE CONTROLLER PROJECT DEMO

COMPSys 2002

TCP/IP MCU INTERACTION OVER THE INTERNET

This project involves a custom TCP/IP multithreaded server running on a Windows PC in the background. The server relays commands issued remotely via TC/IP to a micro controller which is connected to the serial port of the PC. Communications between the mcu and the PC are standard RS232 at 19200 baud. This makes it easy to remotely control the mcu and to receive data from it without having to invest in any hardware. Naturally, the PC would have to be connected to the Internet or a local LAN and have a known IP number. Control via a web page requires that one has a web site to upload the script file or web page such as this page. Or, one can use any telnet application to communicate with the server.

The TCP/IP Server is on Eastern Standard Time (EST)

Designed to allow one to communicate with a micro controller remotely over a LAN or the Internet without any additional hardware. All that would be required is the TCP/IP server software running on a Windows’ PC which is connected to a LAN or the Internet either directly or via a modem. The micro controller would communicates with the server PC over a standard RS232 connection using the PC’s serial port. The micro controller can be programmed to accept ‘commands’ from a remote station either via telnet or a web page such as this.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROJECT IS ONLY IN THE DEVELOPMENT STAGES AND THERE IS MUCH MORE TO DO!
